A nondescript grave at the Pacific View Memorial Park is the final resting place of John Wayne. Born Marion Mitchell Morrison in Iowa, the “Duke” made Orange County his home, forty miles south of Los Angeles. Orange County adopted him as its own and even named its premier airport after him.
Not wanting it to be a shrine or vandalized, his family kept the grave unmarked for two decades. A bronze marker was finally placed showing scenes from monument valley and the Alamo.
Other notable celebrities interred in the park are Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers and Jeff Hanneman of Slayer.
