Wildlife The name Phainopepla means “shining robe”, a reference to the bright , silky plumage of the male. It was high noon and the light was harsh but there was still nice shots to be had at Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve in Huntington Beach, CA. It’s springand time to bring out the macro lenses and long lenses. The Brown Pelican is a common sight at the Bolsa Chica Nature Preserve. A distinctive bird that can be found mainly in the southwestern US but ranges from S. Oregon to northern Argentina. Taken at the Cleveland National Forest Finches can also be seen at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach, CA. Almost became extinct beause they were shot by the thousands because of their pretty plumage. Though wasn’t planning to shoot wildlife, I spotted this lizard sunning just outside the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, CA. Taken at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens at Palm Desert, CA.
